Breaking Live New Zealand beat Sri Lanka, move to brink of World Cup semi-finals.
Posted by: Ayesha Shoukat - 11-09-2023, 07:40 PM - Forum: Business - No Replies

The Kiwis remain in fourth position with 10 points ahead of Pakistan and Afghanistan and a with much superior net run-rate than their rivals.
Both Pakistan and Afghanistan need improbable victory margins in their last matches against England and South Africa respectively to have any of chance of making the final four.

Cricket World Cup semi-final qualification scenarios

  • “There’s a few teams that could end up on similar points,” said New Zealand captain Kane Williamson.
  • “It’s out of our control, we have a couple of trainings, a couple of days off, I don’t know how it will look but it’s great.”
  • The Black Caps, in their last league match, bounced back from four straight losses to close in on a likely semi-final clash against undefeated India.
  • Ravindra, who also took two wickets, added to his blazing form in the tournament including three centuries to edge past South Africa’s Quinton de Kock and top the batting chart with 565 runs.
  • Both left-handed openers struck regular boundaries before Dushmantha Chameera broke through with the wicket of Conway and soon Ravindra followed his partner to the pavilion.
  • Williamson fell for 14 and Mark Chapaman was run out but Daryl Mitchell’s attacking 43 ensured an easy way home despite his departure 10 runs short of the target.
  • Boult returned figures of 3-37 after the Kiwis elected to field first and bundled out Sri Lanka for 171 in 46.4 overs.

Struggles
Opener Kusal Perera smashed 51 but the rest of the batting fell apart.
Sri Lanka slipped to 128-9 before number nine Maheesh Theekshana (38 not out) and Dilshan Madushanka (19) put on a 43-run 10th-wicket to add some respect to the total.
Sri Lanka lost half their side for 70 inside 10 overs after Lockie Ferguson sent back the left-handed Perera, who hit nine fours and two sixes in his 28-ball knock.
Perera was dropped on nought by wicketkeeper Tom Latham off Tim Southee who struck with a wicket on the next ball to send back Pathum Nissanka, caught behind for two.
Boult then took the wickets of skipper Kusal Mendis (six), Sadeera Samarawickrama (one) and Charith Asalanka (eight), who was given not out but the Kiwis successfully reviewed the decision in their favour.
The Mendis strike was Boult’s 50th World Cup wicket Cup to enter elite company including Glenn McGrath, Muttiah Muralitharan, Mitchell Starc, Lasith Malinga and Wasim Akram.
Leg-spinner Mitchell Santner struck twice with his left-arm spin to claim the key wickets of Angelo Mathews (16) and Dhananjaya de Silva (19).
Mathews looked dejected after being caught at slip off Santner’s left-arm spin in his first innings after his “timed out” dismissal – the first in international cricket history – in the team’s previous loss to Bangladesh.
“In the first 10 overs we lost too many wickets and that meant we struggled in the middle overs,” said Mendis.
“If we’d had a good score in the top order we’d have got over 300 and that would be a good score on this pitch.”
Sri Lanka suffered their seventh loss in nine league matches.

Scientists Build New Wearable Device That Won't Let Astronauts Get Lost in Space
Posted by: Ayesha Shoukat - 11-09-2023, 07:28 PM - Forum: Technology - No Replies

Scientists have developed a new technology called vibrotactors to help astronauts maintain their sense of direction in space, where spatial disorientation can be a serious risk.
During simulated spaceflight scenarios, researchers tested vibrotactors and found that when combined with specific training, they assisted participants in accurately assessing their orientation.
This technology holds significant promise for astronauts, particularly during missions involving landing on other planets or maneuvering outside of spacecraft.
"Long-duration spaceflight can induce various physiological and psychological stressors that make astronauts highly susceptible to spatial disorientation," explained Dr. Vivekanand Vimal of Brandeis University in the United States, lead author of the article published in Frontiers in Physiology. "When disoriented, astronauts can no longer trust their internal sensors, which they have relied on throughout their lives."

I would caution others to think twice before purchasing products from Haier
Posted by: Wahab Malik - 09-09-2023, 10:06 AM - Forum: Fraud/SCAM - No Replies

I bought a new Haier floor-standing AC about a month ago, it suddenly stopped working after a loud blast in the device about 2 weeks ago. I called Haier for help, and a technician came to check it out. They took some parts with them to fix it and said they'd be back the next day to finish up.
However, I haven't heard from them since. I've tried reaching out to Haier's customer support, but they don't seem to know what's happening either. This situation is frustrating, and it feels like Haier isn't providing good after-sales service.
The lack of communication and follow-up from Haier's support team has left me feeling that they are not providing adequate after-sales service, which is disappointing considering the brand's reputation.
Also the quality of their devices doesn't seem up to standard, and I have concerns about the safety. This whole experience has raised doubts about the reliability and safety of Haier's products
I would caution others to think twice before purchasing products from Haier, as my experience has been far from satisfactory.

The ICC World Cup 2023 trophy is set to arrive in Pakistan on September 5
Posted by: Ayesha Shoukat - 09-04-2023, 05:06 PM - Forum: Sports - No Replies

The ICC World Cup 2023 trophy, as part of its global tour, is set to arrive in Pakistan on September 5, according to sources familiar with the matter. Initially scheduled for a five-day visit from July 31 to August 4, the trophy’s tour was delayed due to uncertainties regarding Pakistan’s participation in the event. It is expected to have a brief two-day stay in Lahore, concluding on September 6.
During its short visit, the ICC World Cup 2023 trophy will tour historical landmarks, as well as shopping malls and educational institutions in Pakistan. This tour aims to engage cricket enthusiasts and build excitement for the upcoming ICC World Cup.
The ICC World Cup 2023 is slated to kick off in India on October 5, featuring ten teams competing for the coveted title. The trophy’s visit to Pakistan serves as a reminder of the global cricketing event and celebrates the sport’s fervent following in the country.
It’s worth noting that the Pakistani government recently granted approval for the national cricket team’s participation in the ICC World Cup 2023, ending months of uncertainty. The controversy emerged when India declined to tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023, citing security concerns, which raised questions about Pakistan’s visit to India for the World Cup.

Posted by: Ayesha Shoukat - 09-04-2023, 04:55 PM - Forum: Technology - No Replies

The Punjab police in Pakistan have introduced an electronic driving license facility to enhance citizen services. The Inspector General Of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, spearheaded this initiative, making it easier for citizens to obtain and use driving licenses. Users can download their electronic driving license in PDF format, making it convenient for them to carry and present while driving.
The Punjab traffic police website, known as DLIMS, allows users to register their national identity card number and date of birth to apply for the electronic driving license.
Dr. Usman Anwar also mentioned that over 3 million driving licenses have already been issued, and the number of driving license centers across Punjab has increased from 45 to 200 to cater to the growing demand.
The electronic driving license includes a QR code for verification purposes, and it contains essential information such as a photo, address, and license details. The Inspector General praised the Punjab Police for their efforts and urged citizens to adhere to traffic rules after obtaining their e-driving licenses.

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has decided to stage sit-ins outside four Governor Houses
Posted by: Bisma07 - 09-04-2023, 04:48 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has decided to stage sit-ins outside four Governor Houses and in front of the power companies’ offices, JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said on Monday.
“We will protest on roads, in front of K-Electric head office and the offices of the HESCO and FESCO,” JI leader said while talking to media here.
“They are white collar criminals who are issuing threats in press conferences,” he said.
The independent power producers remain part of government led by any party, he said. “Earlier, the People’s Party and later the PML-N signed these agreements,” Hafiz Naeem said. “You consume electricity or not but bound to pay money to the IPPs, which include big fish,” he said.
JI leader vowed to guide the movement ahead seeking for cancellation of the K-Electric licence.
“Mr Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif and Mr. Kakar, tell us what type of economic institution the IMF is,” he questioned. “The ruling class has chained the country in loans for 76 years,” JI Karachi chief said. “They bargain on our sovereignty and praise IMF on media to misguide the people,” he said.
Hafiz Naeem asked Sindh’s caretaker home minister to launch an immediate action and a targeted operation in katcha and pakka areas of the province.
JI leader said Bilawal Bhutto’s plane has crashed, ” He won’t be a prime minister forever. Now the People’s Party has been on the verge of saying goodbye to Sindh,” Hafiz Naeem said.
